Serene stay amidst lava fields on El Hierro island
Apartamento Playa Roja - view it on Google Maps
El Hierro is the smallest and the least-visited of the inhabited Canary Islands.
La Restinga is a village that looks like a small town. It is nestled in a striking volcanic landscape, offering a peaceful retreat away from the tourist crowds and a chance to truly disconnect and recharge.
You can reach the place by bus, but I recommend renting a car - you will need it for comfortable navigation around the truly stunning island. That said, the island is small, and it is technically possible to cross it coast-to-coast on foot in one day (if you are fit and determined).
The condotel here is good for long-term stays. In fact, some of the locals who work at diving schools etc. live here themselves. It’s right next to a small cozy beach in the bay, and a small promenade along the water will lead you to a handful of local restaurants.

- Highlights: right by the diving spots; lava tubes and lava fields around; mountains and forests with stunning views in close reach.
- Good to know: cooking possible; affordable docking for yachts available.
- Shortcomings: limited public transport; no gym options; no co-working options; socialization on-premise unlikely, but places where locals hang out are all nearby - it’s a small place.
- Why it’s on the list: a unique location with lava fields and plenty of diving schools; a stunning island to explore.

Family-friendly stay at Biwa lake
J-Hoppers Biwa Lake Guesthouse - view it on Google Maps
Lake Biwa is the highlight of Shiga prefecture, Japan. You’ll stay right by the Omi-Maiko Beach in Minamikomatsu, popular with locals.
The Guesthouse offers hostel-type stays and more spacious private rooms. It’s a great place to take a break from city life, hike a few mountains for the views and waterfalls, enjoy the lake in summer and use a ropeway to the ski slopes in winter.
There are few going out options nearby, and it’s a 15 minutes to the closest convenience store. But if you take a 30 minute train to Adogawa station, your choice widens somewhat, and you’ll even find a couple of supermarkets there. It’s a quick train ride away from Kyoto, so you can go for day trips there for Matsuri or other fun activities.

- Why it’s on the list: a cozy place with a lake to chill and meet people; close to nature
Comfy and affordable co-working in Kawasaki
Hotel + Hostel Kawasaki - view it on Google Maps
Kawasaki is sandwiched between Tokyo and the port city of Yokohama which makes it a convenient place to stay if you want to explore both, since it’s well-connected with trains. The stay is just minutes away from Kawasaki main station.
This hostel is more on the practical side and good for concentrating on work - it has a large common area which is usually quiet. There are no private booths for calls though. For its quietness it might be not the best place to socialize.
It’s clean, efficient and a solid option for a shorter stay. For a long stay maybe if you want to concentrate on work. Kitchen only has a microwave and a kettle - no options to cook. There a lot of eating out options around though and some night clubs if you’re into that.

Thought-through stay for digital nomads in Busan
Nomad X in Busan - view it on Google Maps
Busan is good! That’s the city motto - simple and to the point. Most importantly: true. I ended up in the city by a chance somehow, but it has grown on my and I find myself coming back.
The hostel is targetting specifically nomads (it’s in the name), but I think it’s a good mix of all kinds of people: travelers, party-goers, working nomads, Koreans visiting for a few days and other crazy people. Mostly people in their 20s, early 30s, but there are all kinds of guests. This is a place where you can also volunteer for a free stay.
One of the most thought-through places I’ve been to. Everything is designed to make your stay comfortable and fun. There are various rooms and compartments in and around the common area where you can work, study or hang out / socialize.
Fun bits include VR glasses, a pool table, ping pong, darts, retro arcade games, a PS with a steering wheel, TVs with Netflix, projector for movie nights, and even a music room with a guitar, e-drums and a microphone. There is access to the rooftop too, which unfortunatly closes at night. Access to a solid gym is included in the price too.
Digital nomad highlight: access to 2 co-working offices nearby, also included in the price.
Overall, a very comfy and a fun stay. I hope they expand to other cities soon.

- Good to know: summer can get quite hot, the best seasons to visit are autumn and spring
- Shortcomings: “dorm” options get easily booked out, no roof access in the evening / at night
- Why it’s on the list: honestly, one of the best hostels I’ve stayed at, and for the money - definitely the best
